Sequoits Shine with Winter Athletics

D117 Seagles Boys Bowling
In just its second year as a program, the Seagles Boys Bowling team, led by Coach Kyle Baker, demonstrated resilience and growth throughout the season. Despite a challenging schedule, the team secured key victories over Waukegan (2375-2065), Grayslake North (3219-2884), and Johnsburg (3412-2987), showcasing their competitive spirit. Captains Antioch Senior Matthew Kotloski and Lakes Senior Brayden Thornton led the way, delivering standout performances and setting the tone for the team. The season concluded at the IHSA Regional hosted by Warren Township.

Girls Bowling
Under the leadership of Head Coach Whitney Walsh, the Antioch Sequoits Girls Bowling team had a strong showing this season, culminating in a fifth-place finish at the NLCC Tournament with a total pinfall of 5138. The team was led by standout performances from All-Conference bowlers Lucy Eifert and Savanna Lehman, who consistently delivered impressive scores throughout the season. As they prepare to compete in the IHSA Regional Tournament at Round Lake on February 8th, the Sequoits are poised to make a strong postseason push.

Boys Basketball
As the Antioch Sequoits boys’ basketball team reaches the midpoint of the 2024-25 season, they have shown resilience and growth under Head Coach Sean Connor, currently standing at 9-11. Despite early struggles in the St. Viator Tournament, the team rebounded with key victories, including a thrilling buzzer-beater by Zach Kavich against Geneva (43-42) and a dominant win over Lakes Community (51-40). Senior Jason Lee has been a standout, leading the team in several statistical categories. With Regionals beginning February 24th and Antioch set to host a Sectional site for the Class 3A IHSA Tournament, the Sequoits aim to finish strong and make a deep postseason run.

Girls Basketball
Under the leadership of Head Coach Jamie D’Andrea, the Antioch Girls Basketball team has shown perseverance and steady improvement, holding a 10-10 record at mid-season. Early challenges in tournament play led to key learning experiences, but the Sequoits found momentum with wins over Addison Trail (51-48), Lemont (58-55), and key conference victories against Lakes Community, Grayslake North, and Round Lake. Standout players Enza Nawrocki, Addie Webb, and Heidi Rathmann have been instrumental in the team’s success, leading both offensively and defensively. A crucial victory over Wauconda highlighted their potential as they prepare for the IHSA Class 3A playoffs.

Cheerleading
Under the leadership of Head Coach Amber Babin, the Antioch Sequoits Cheerleading team delivered an impressive season, securing third-place finishes at both the Johnsburg Invitational and the All of the Lights competition, along with strong performances at Buffalo Grove (6th), the NLCC Conference Invite (3rd), and the Fremd Invitational (5th). Despite a season filled with success, the team faced disappointment at the IHSA Sectional at Grayslake North, finishing in sixth place and narrowly missing state qualification. However, the season was highlighted by All-State recognition for senior flyers Caile Painter and Leilani Saldana, whose outstanding performances helped elevate the team. 

Dance
Under the guidance of Co-Head Coaches Sarah Owen and Maggie Quirke, the Antioch Sequoits Dance Team captivated audiences with performances infused with joy and passion. Always representing their community with grace and energy, the team showcased an abundance of talent throughout the season. Feature dancers Vivian Lorch, Josie Quirke, and Delaney Emering delivered standout routines that embodied the spirit and dedication of the program. 

Girls Wrestling
In its inaugural season, the Antioch Sequoits Girls Wrestling team made history by claiming three dual victories over NLCC opponents, setting a strong foundation for the future. Led by standout performances from Lake County Champions sophomore Londyn Lloyd and freshman Josie Blau, the team showcased its talent and determination throughout the season. Their dominance continued at the Round Lake IHSA Regional, where they secured four sectional qualifiers: Sasha Johnson, Dylylah Patterson, Josie Blau, and Regional Champion Londyn Lloyd. With the sectional tournament beginning Friday, February 14th, at New Trier High School, the Sequoits are poised to make a significant impact as they continue their remarkable debut season.

Boys Wrestling
Led by legendary coach Wilbur Borrero, the Antioch Sequoits Boys Wrestling team delivered an impressive season, securing second place in the NLCC with dual losses only to Grant and Grayslake Central. The team was fueled by standout performances, including dominant showings from 215lb. Owen Shea and seniors Ben Vazquez (175lbs), Gavin Hanrahan (126lbs.), and Nathan Gorski (157lbs.). Newcomer Dom Garcia made a powerful impact in the 150lb. weight class, while Chase Nobiling set the pace for the squad by claiming the Lake County Championship at 144lbs. Antioch will host the IHSA Class 2A Regionals on Saturday February 8th.
