LCHS: Illinois Library Association
Rising senior Lia Neveu is being honored by the Illinois Library Association, winning the Intellectual Freedom Award for their grass-roots organizing for students’ rights to read. The ILA Intellectual Freedom Award is given in recognition “for outstanding contributions in defending intellectual freedom or the advancement of these principles as espoused and promulgated by both the Illinois Library Association and the American Library Association.” Neveu has addressed both the District 117 School Board and the Millburn School Board to address concerns over limiting student access to books. They have also met with State Senator Mary Edly-Allen to discuss the state of book censorship in Illinois. Neveu will receive their award at the 2024 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in October.
