Eagles Celebrate 20 Years

110

One thing I’ve always appreciated about serving in the field of education is the opportunity to start fresh each fall. Whether it’s taking on a new class, moving to a different school, meeting new students, or stepping into a brand new role — I relish taking time over the summer to reflect on feedback and adjust to the needs being presented by students, staff, and our community. Lakes Community High School is no different. Twenty years ago on August 23, 2004, fifty-four staff members (15 of which are still at LCHS!) opened the doors with a red carpet to just over 600 freshmen and sophomores. We had no varsity sports and weren’t even using the south wing of the building which now houses Math, Science, and Social Studies classes in addition to a variety of offices. Compare that to August 20, 2024, when almost 160 staff members will cheer on close to 1300 students in grades 9 through 12. We have a deep offering of extra-curricular activities that continues to grow based on student interests (check out our inaugural season of Girls Flag Football this fall). Understanding growing needs while responding to heightened student experiences and achievements is the foundation of what we do at LCHS starting with establishing solid relationships and fostering a welcoming culture and climate. This is truly a special place!

Please save the date of Friday, September 27th, for our Homecoming and 20th Anniversary Celebration of Lakes. We have some exciting events planned and hope you can join in the festivities as we come together to honor our past, celebrate our present, and envision our future.

Fly, Eagles Fly!
