District 117 Girls Gymnastics
Head coach Kristie Blasinski has the D117 Seagles (Sequoits + Eagles=Seagles) gymnastics team raising the bar with each competition, as team scores are continuously improving. Senior gymnasts Analia Lacson, Sherene Urena, Kris Tenoso, Lily Greenfield, and Julia Blasinski were honored at Mundelein High School, prior to the meet vs. the Mustangs and the Lake Forest Scouts on 1/15. Posting the highest score in program history, the team placed 7th at the Lake County Invitational on 1/20! At the Glenbrook South regional on 2/5, senior Julia Blasinski’s performance qualified her for sectionals in every event in which she competed-beam, vault, uneven parallel bars, and she placed 4th in the all-around! In addition, she set the D117 record with a score of 9.35 in the floor exercise, en route to her 2nd straight regional championship in that event!
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team, under the direction of Chris Snyder, has been busy this winter. Hosting a very competitive varsity Thanksgiving Tournament, as well as a three-level tournament in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the team is improving as the season continues. Most recently, they picked up a nice win over Round Lake on 2/4, and played well in the “Coaches vs. Cancer” fundraising event vs. Lake Forest Academy on 2/8. The final regular season home game for seniors Jason Klimas, Manasseh Sefah, Brandon Stanton, Brenden Ward, and Patrik Dortch was on 2/11 vs. Antioch.
Girls Basketball
Coach Grant Murray has the girls basketball team playing well as the season progresses. With a record of 11-13, the team is steadily improving as they approach the end of the regular season. Along with the boys basketball program, the ladies participated in Lake Forest Academy’s “Coaches vs. Cancer” games on 2/8. Led by seniors Adey Martin, Emily Ovaska, Kaylee Anderson, Kaylie Schneider, and Caitlin Bloom, the team is poised to make some noise in the postseason, which starts at the St. Viator regional vs. Vernon Hills on 2/18.
Cheerleading
Korrina Andre’s cheerleading team had another very successful season. The ladies recorded a third place finish at the Crystal Lake Central Invitational, and first place finishes at the All of the Lights and Huntley competitions! Performing at the very difficult Grayslake North sectional, the Eagles placed 9th overall. This season capped off very successful careers for seniors Kendall Anderson, Melina Zalapi, Elena Arnholt, and Mackenzie Urban!
Dance
With Nicole Broman at the helm, the Lakes dance team grew by leaps and bounds again this season. Led by seniors Kaitlyn Leverenz, Jordyn Yuknis, Julia Blasinski, Meredith Rial, and Olivia Stolzer, the team placed fifth at the Mundelein Invitational and brought home second place trophies from the Crystal Lake Central and Sycamore Invitationals. These performances were followed up with a fifth-place finish at the All of the Lights Competition!
Girls Bowling
The girls bowling team, led by Dale Lehman, has had historic success this season. They won the regular season NLCC title, as well as the NLCC tournament championship! Ella Kempf, Nicole Kennedy, Katie Kingsbury, Ava Lewis, and Peyton Mezo received all-conference honors! Mezo was the NLCC individual champion, and bowled a high game of 289! Lakes honored the aforementioned bowlers, as well as fellow senior Miley Oller, before their match vs. Grant on 1/21. The Eagles won their 3rd consecutive regional championship on 2/8! Led by individual champion Peyton Mezo, the Eagles are carrying great momentum into the Hoffman Estates sectional, which takes place on 2/15.
Girls Wrestling
After winning the inaugural girls wrestling state championship last year, the ladies have picked up right where they left off, under the direction of Coach Mark Stave, who also serves as the boys head coach. Lakes hosted their first-ever Lakes Girls Wrestling SnowBrawl tournament on 12/20. Led by seniors Josie Larson and Haven Sylves, the Eagles placed first out of twelve teams. There were 5 sectional qualifiers-Larson, Sylves, Osmairi Medina, Elise Kaylor, and Tina Hasner.
Boys Wrestling
The boys wrestlers have endured numerous injuries and a tough schedule this season. Recent highlights include three place winners at the Lake County Invitational in mid-January. On 1/23, Lakes honored senior wrestlers Hilario Enriquez, Julian Ramos, Cayden Webber, John Coleman, Cooper Walsh, and manager Grace Loar for their contributions and dedication to the team, prior to the match vs. Grant. The boys had two sectional qualifiers, Jayden Rudnicki and Julian Ramos.
