South Asian Student Association (SASA) sponsor Rimi Singh will be recognized by the Illinois Directors of Student Activities (IDSA) at their annual convention on March 10 as an Outstanding New Student Activity Advisor. Ms. Singh has been sponsoring SASA since the fall of 2023, when students Mahek Bhatt, Sinchana Goundalkar, and Janis Sefina John Peter approached her about creating a club to celebrate and educate others about South Asian culture and traditions. Over the past year and a half, Mrs. Singh has made SASA a thriving and inclusive space for students of all backgrounds. Under her leadership, SASA’s membership is booming and students have enjoyed a variety of events, including a Holi celebration, Diwali crafts, and culinary events featuring falooda and Maggi noodles. Mrs. Singh’s commitment to inclusivity has created a welcoming space for students to learn about and celebrate South Asian traditions, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
