Lakes Competitive Activities are on a roll in their State series this year! Chess, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), D117 Winterguard, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Math Team, and eSports Rocket League and Mario Kart 8 Teams all qualified for spots at their State competitions second semester.

Chess kicked off our State successes in February, coming in 48th out of 128 teams and beating last year’s 122nd place finish.

In March, FBLA saw two members qualify for Nationals; congratulations to freshman Shrey Patel and Senior Mitch Crevier who performed well enough to represent Lakes’ FBLA team at their National Convention in Anaheim this June. The winning streak continued in March, with the D117 SWinterguard taking first place in the AA Scholastic Brubaker Divisions for the second year in a row at the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championships.

FCCLA sent four competitors to their State convention in April. Riley Bell-Nance competed in the Charcuterie event and Gisele Muzones, Brayden Hoffman, and Kaitlyn Satenstein competed in Decorated Cakes. All competitors medaled and Kaitlyn brought home the first place Most Outstanding award for her Chicago Bears cake.

Blake Salbilla qualified for the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Mathematics State Competition in April and took 45th out of 162 in Pre-Calculus.

Lastly, Lakes eSports competed on May 3 at State, coming in with a top 10 finish for Mario Kart and a top 15 finish for Rocket League.
