Eagle Theatre performed David Saar’s The Yellow Boat this October as a part of their 24-25 theatre season. The students worked hard in all aspects building technical designs, directing scenes, and telling the real life story of Benjamin Saar, the playwright’s son. This play chronicles the story of a young boy who contracts HIV while receiving a transfusion for his hemophilia and the everlasting impact he has had on the world. This story is challenging but thanks to the Lakes Eagles Booster Grants, Dr. Jimmy Chrismon was hired as the company’s mental health coordinator. He coordinated talkbacks with community members whose expertises aligned with Benjamin’s story, he trained the company members how to maintain mental health while interacting with this story, and he organized visits from The Willow House and CYN Counseling Center in the lobby to provide services to audience members as well.
The students left the production with a remarkable sense of pride and a set of life skills they can now apply to anything. Join Eagle Theatre for their next production, their Theatre of the Mind performance of Dracula: A Radio Play by William Meurer on November 15th and 16th at 7pm.
