Empower to Achieve

In our district, fostering a “culture of high expectations” is not just an aspiration; it’s a core pillar in our strategic plan that has shaped our achievements and defined our goals. Much like the renowned cultures of excellence seen in companies like Nike and Apple, we believe that success is no accident. Just as Nike relentlessly pursues performance and innovation, and Apple prioritizes high-quality design and user experience, we hold ourselves to rigorous standards, aiming for academic, personal, and community success for every student. Our commitment is embodied in our mission: “We inspire students to dream, and empower them to achieve.”

This dedication to high expectations has already begun yielding significant accomplishments. Oakland Elementary School has achieved Exemplary status, a recognition that reflects our ongoing commitment to academic excellence and equity. At Antioch Upper Grade School (AUGS), we have been designated a Middle School Association Schools to Watch, a testament to our efforts to create an engaging, inclusive, and high-performing environment for our middle school students. Our Mary Kay McNeill Early Learning Center’s (ELC) Parents as Teachers program has also been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon Program, highlighting our early commitment to fostering foundational skills and family involvement in education.

Our students, too, are reaching impressive milestones, thanks to the systems and support within our district. Abby Glowacki qualified for state in cross-country and achieved her personal best, a remarkable achievement that speaks to her dedication and the encouragement she receives from her coaches and peers. We’re equally proud of Nicholas Daniels and Avah Williams, two outstanding eighth-grade musicians who have been accepted into the prestigious Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) Junior Honor Band. Their acceptance is a testament to their hard work and the high-quality music education our district provides. Additionally, Kayleigh Yurkonis, a third-grader at Hillcrest Elementary School, is making a name for herself with her innovative use of technology, exemplifying our commitment to creativity and forward-thinking learning experiences. Another inspiring example of our “culture of high expectations” in action is seen at WC Petty Elementary, where students produce their own morning show. This initiative provides a unique platform for students to build confidence, collaborate, and take on real responsibilities.

Creating a culture of high expectations means having robust systems that support every student, teacher, and staff member in achieving their best. Like high-achieving organizations, we rely on strong, well-defined practices that promote accountability, innovation, and excellence. Our achievements across academic, artistic, and athletic arenas illustrate how these values come to life in real and meaningful ways.

As a destination district, we’re extremely proud of what our students, staff, and schools have accomplished. By setting the bar high and providing the resources to meet it, we ensure that every member of our community is equipped to dream big and achieve more. This is our mission in action, and together, we continue to build a legacy of excellence that will transform the future of our community and beyond.

Sincerely,
Aron Borowiak
