The 5th and 8th grade students found new connections and relationships through a year long engagement with the Antioch Senior Center. As part of a PBL component this year, students were tasked with finding a way to connect outside of the school. After brainstorming and reaching out, a connection to the Senior Center was created. This has allowed the students to meet and participate in an intergenerational program that has benefited both groups. A highlight for both was the project the students undertook to interview a senior and then create a memory book of their interview. It was an experience that filled both the interviewer and interviewee with curiosity about each other in addition to joy connecting with each other. The hope is that this opportunity will continue and broaden giving students and seniors ways to make new friendships.
