Eagles Celebrate Twenty Years

184

Do you remember what you were doing 20 years ago on August 23, 2004? Some of you were so young, you were not even in school yet or perhaps not even born. Others were in varying stages of student life: elementary school, middle school, high school, or college. A few of us were already in adulthood. For fourteen of our current LCHS staff members, we were wearing our new Lakes polos opening the doors of Lakes Community High School for the very first time! In two short decades, LCHS has established itself as a force of good for students and families while creating life-long friendships for everyone in the community. Our talented students have succeeded at elite levels in Academics, Fine Arts, Athletics, and Extracurriculars due in part to incredible experiences, collaborative trust, and motivation provided by their families, teachers, coaches, directors, and sponsors. We also have secured a highly decorated staff that has been recognized at local, state, and national levels. A 20th Anniversary committee is being assembled to plan for a celebration in the fall of 2024. Please email jori.bowen@chsd117.org if you would like to receive further information about the committee.

This summer, Lakes was humming with summer school classes, Summer Freshman Academy, and sports camps along with a deep interior cleaning and upgrades to the auditorium, football field, and exterior of the building. It is true that Lakes is never really empty, but there is nothing like the energy at the start of a new school year at LCHS! To kick off 2023-24, the Administrative Team visited the homes of ten students that excelled on their SAT exam as either a top score or the greatest growth from PSAT/NMSQT to SAT. Those students recognized were: Nell Cichon, James Kania, Connor Kazmierowicz, Matthew Klann, Liam Makela, Peter Mazik, Kennedy McCarten, Patrick Novotny, Lainey Russo, and Cody Summerson.

I look forward to continuing the celebrations of our students including watching our junior and senior Link Crew Leaders welcoming and mentoring the Class of 2027, sitting in classes learning alongside our students, and cheering on all the performances and competitions that are to come. I invite you to explore the many available events through our website at eagles.chsd117.org and hope to see you soon cheering for our Eagles!

In the Eagle Spirit,
Jori Bowen
