ATHLETICS: LCHS

Even though we have endured our share of challenges during the winter season, we have overcome most of those and seen considerable success. Congratulations to all of these dedicated student-athletes! Below are the highlights:

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team hosted its inaugural Thanksgiving tournament in the District 117 Fieldhouse. The fieldhouse was able to host 8 teams, with each playing three games over two days.  The varsity team’s current record is 10-18.

Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team hosted its two-level Martin Luther King, Jr. tournament for the 2nd time. The sophomore team placed 1st and the varsity team placed 3rd. The varsity team’s current record is 12-13.

1st Annual Jr. Eagles Basketball Tournament
The Lakes and Antioch girls and boys basketball teams partnered to host the 1st Annual Jr. Eagles Basketball Tournament on the Sunday of Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. 53 teams were able to participate!

Gymnastics
The District 117 co-op gymnastics team has seen considerable improvement as the season has progressed. Made up of team members from both District 117 schools, the girls team had four sectional qualifiers. 

Cheer
Cheer had a great season, as they placed 4th in the NLCC Competition and 4th at sectionals to qualify for state. 

Dance
The JV team placed 3rd in the NLCC Competition and saw great growth as the season progressed. The varsity team did not compete in the NLCC Competition, but placed 11th at the Deerfield sectional, and showed solid improvement throughout the season. 

Girls Bowling
Girls Bowling has seen considerable growth in the size of the team, as well as in its success. The varsity team finished 5th at the NLCC Tournament and had two sectional qualifiers. 

Boys Bowling
Alec Melecio and Phil Heuser qualified for the IHSA state bowling tournament. Phil won the Hononegah Sectional with a 230 average, and Alec placed 4th with a 220 average. At the state tournament in O’Fallon, Phil placed 17th in the state! 

Wrestling
The wrestling program successfully added girls wrestling to our extra-curricular offerings, and the IHSA will host a girls, as well as a boys state series. At the time of this publication, the girls sectional has not yet taken place, but four boys wrestlers qualified for the sectional meet.
