Lakes Community High School welcomed 65 students to our Summer Freshman Academy (SFA) from July 13-31, 2020. Since 2008, SFA has been preparing students for high school, both providing a solid foundation to achieve the college readiness mark by graduation and building their excitement for high school. This invitation-only program covers math, English, science, social studies, as well as social and emotional learning. Students are selected for this program based on test scores and recommendations from past teachers.
SFA 2020 looked a little different from previous years as we implemented new health and safety procedures for all staff and students.
• Each household self-assessed their health at home and documented daily.
• Masks were required everywhere in the building, at all times, by everyone.
• Upon entering LCHS, everyone had their temperature taken at our new scanning kiosks.
• Hand sanitizing occurred upon entering the building and was encouraged multiple times throughout the day.
• All classrooms were sanitized between periods.
• We tested out the new hallway, stairway separation and social distancing strategies.
