Lakes Community High School has enjoyed tremendous success over the last four years, especially in our fall sports. From conference championships to sectional titles to our school’s first ever team state trophy. Our fall athletes have always set a path for continued success through the school year and unified the school culture behind our successes. Megan Heuser and Brooke Stromsland are the catalyst for so much of our success.
Megan Heuser
Megan finished her career with a record of 122 wins and 3 loses, in four years, she was all state 3 times, conference and sectional champion 4 times and won a state title in girls singles in 2019. In that time, she also helped bring 2 team sectional titles to Lakes. Megan finished her career on her home courts and another sectional title. Though she did not get a chance to compete at the state finals due to Covid-19, her legacy is cemented in our state. Very few athletes, anywhere, can point to so much success. This came from her determination, pride and passion to get better. She will be missed but never forgotten. Megan will attend the University of Illinois next fall.
Brooke Stromsland
Brooke Stromsland, a name that is well known in Lake County and across the state of Illinois. A running superstar in the best cross-country state in the country. Brooke was all state 3 times, including a state championship her sophomore year. She was a conference, regional and sectional champion multiple times in her career. A humble and determined athlete that always put her teammates before herself, helped our girl’s cross country team accomplish something that had never been done before in the school’s history, bring home a state trophy in 2019. In my 16 years as a teacher and coach at Lakes I know first-hand how close we had come before but it took the leadership of Brooke to finally accomplish this elusive goal. The memory of holding the state trophy will always stand as one of the most rewarding moments of my career. Thanks to a legend named Brooke Stromsland. Brooke will attend Belmont University starting next fall.
