So Long Summer, Onward to Autumn

472

Summer is coming to a close. It’s hard to believe that a new school year is approaching and the leaves will start to change. There is a lot happening in our community this fall, especially with our parks and Senior Programs. Here is a look back at summer and ahead to autumn…

Senior Events and Programs
Our seniors have had a blast this summer. The Township Luau hosted 150 guests and the amazing Doc Diamond entertained the crowd. Our FREE Monday movies are a hit with FREE popcorn, raffle prizes, and trivia. Our next movie, September 20th, is a special event for seniors and their grandchildren; a sing-a-long to The Sound of Music. We have put valet parking in place for seniors who attend the show. In July we took a bus to see the Tristan Crist magic show in Lake Geneva. It was amazing. We still have no idea how he made an entire motorcycle disappear!

Grand Re-Opening Of Disc Golf Course: Antioch Silver Lochs
This fall we will have a grand re-opening of the disc course at Tim Osmond Sports Complex. We have made vast improvements with the insight and direction from professional disc golfer and designer, Chuck Kennedy. We have also engaged avid disc golf players in our community for input on the course. We have named the course, Antioch Silver Lochs, and anticipate moving up in the rankings to become one of the top ten courses in Lake County. Visit our website site and look for updates, information, and tournaments happening at Antioch Silver Lochs Disc Golf Course.

Antioch Community Park Coop Board
Antioch Township is working in partnership with the Village on several initiatives. We are more connected than ever before to keep our community safe, informed, and thriving! Our Park Coop Board includes members Scott Gartner (Mayor of Antioch), Petrina Burman (Village Trustee), Mark Sural (Community Member), Kris Shepard (Township Trustee), Mark Haufe (Community Member), and myself, Tom Shaughnessy (Township Supervisor).

“Without a Park District, it can be difficult to bring amenities and programming forward. The Village and the Township are working as one and have revitalized and revisited the Park Coop agreement. We have a working Board of community members and Trustees from both the Village and the Township. It’s wonderful to see the creative ideas and progress we are making for our community with zero added cost to taxpayers!”- Scott Gartner, Mayor of Antioch

Sledding & Skating In The Park
This winter we will have ice skating and sledding at Tim Osmond Sports Complex. Our ground crew has worked to create a safe and fun environment for Antioch residents to enjoy this winter. We intend to make the park a prime sledding and skating venue for Antioch.

Thelen Park Development
Our Township Trustee, Steve Turner, has worked diligently to secure grant money for the development of Thelen Park. This land has been sitting vacant for many years. We are working with landscaping park architects, Pamela Self & Co. and community members to determine how best to develop the land for use and enjoyment by our residents. If you have any input or ideas, please send them my way: tshaughnessy@antiochtownshipil.gov or call the office at 847.395.3378.

I’m proud to serve this community and look forward to all that is ahead this season!
Tom Shaughnessy
