The Holidays are Here!

It’s the Holiday season and a lot is happening at the Antioch Township. As our senior programs and events continue to grow, we have hired Renee Mehring as the Director of Community Senior Services. We are excited to bring Renee onboard, she comes to us with 20 yrs. experience in Senior Service industry; hear from her below regarding her background:

I am thrilled to join the Township Team as the new Director of Community Senior Services.

I received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse with a major in Recreation and a minor in Sociology. Since then, I have worked with senior citizens in multiple capacities throughout Lake County for over 30 years. Some of my previous experience includes planning programs and events, fundraising, sales in senior living and hospice care.

I have lived in Antioch for 20 years. I’m married to my husband, Keith, and we have two kids: Erika who is a sophomore in college studying Music Education and Max who is a freshman at ACHS.

I look forward to meeting new people in our community while providing educational programs, fun events, excursions and more for our seniors!

You will see Renee at all the events and programs for Antioch Seniors. You can connect with Renee at rmehring@antiochtownshipil.gov or call 847.395.3378. Please visit our website to join our e-newsletter or stop by the office at 1625 N. Deep Lake Rd to pick up information, join our mailing list and welcome Renee to the team!

Progress for Antioch
We have several projects and initiatives that are happening throughout Antioch. Our work updating and adding to Osmond Park was recognized by the Lake County Audubon Society. Our Township team along with The Antioch Garden Club were honored for creating an interpretive trail and habitats for various wildlife and fauna throughout the park.

Community Center Referendum
Although the referendum did not pass, it is encouraging that more than one-third of voters are in favor of the Antioch Township Community Center. While the outcome isn’t what we hoped for, we will evaluate and move forward. We are grateful to our community leaders who worked as Antioch Ambassadors to represent this project. Unfortunately, timing may be a factor in the outcome of the election. We are inspired by the number of yes votes and are driven to continue pursuing the Antioch Township Community Center. Antioch residents of all ages deserve the quality amenities offered in other communities. We will consider our options, we will regroup, and assess the next steps in our continuing efforts to make this happen.

Thelen Park
We are excited to share our plans for development of Thelen Park. This 30-acre property has belonged to the Township for 20 years. Our team has worked with Pamela Self Landscaping & Park Design & EVA Engineering to create a recreational outdoor area for all to enjoy. Amenities include ample parking, basketball courts, birdwatching area, disc golf course, naturalized plantings, obstacle course, overlook to rookery, pavilion overlooking water, pickleball courts, play area, slope/sledding hill, sports shelter, volleyball court & walking/hiking trail.

Stay Connected!
As we plan our activities and events for 2023, we will send a mailing along with a sign-up sheet. If you have suggestions for outings or programs, please connect with Renee Mehring.

We hope you have a warm and wonderful Holiday Season.

All the best,
Tom Shaughnessy
