Learning New Skills

463

Have you ever built a chess board? Have you ever learned to speak another language? Have you ever been on stage and performed for others to watch? Have you ever learned to cook? Have you ever created your own logo for a t-shirt? Have you ever learned to fix an engine? These are just some of the skills that our students can learn from taking electives at ACHS. We have a place for everyone to learn a new skill, inspire themselves, and find their passion. For some of our students, this might not be their future career, but the ability to learn a new skill, to take a risk, and to take pride in their efforts is something that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

We realize there is not one path to success. Fortunately, there are many and we provide opportunities for our students to try them. There is no better time to try something new than when you are in high school. You are supported and encouraged and can make mistakes and learn from them without damaging your career goals. Instead, you may find a new goal and begin to pursue it. We encourage our students to be well-rounded individuals with multiple experiences and interests. For us to achieve our mission of inspiring passion and discovery in every student, we must continue to provide and promote our electives.

This spring, we will have 3-D printed, remote controlled cars racing in our school. We will smell bacon and cookies throughout the day. We will see small children being taught by our students. We will watch students climbing the walls, literally. Most of all, we will see students find their future and be guided there with our support.
