Student Council Brightens Student Life

LCHS Student Council found ways throughout the fall to provide experiences and positively impact staff and students, despite increased safety precautions.

In October, student council members voted to provide a pumpkin to every staff member “to help brighten their day.” Students worked independently to research pumpkin prices and arrange delivery of over 200 pumpkins. On the day that the pumpkins were delivered, student council members from each class volunteered their time to distribute the pumpkins throughout the school.

In addition to pumpkin distribution, student council members coordinated a socially-distanced, after school event for students and staff. Eagles were able to paint pumpkins outside in the Commons Courtyard on Thursday, October 22. Students signed up for a 45-minute time slot with a total of 75 Eagles painting during the 3 available shifts. We are immensely thankful to Patch 22 (Wadsworth, IL) for delivering the pumpkins and the LCHS Art Department for supplying the paints and brushes.

On October 14, the class of 2021 took the mandatory, graduation required SAT test. All seniors were required to be in the building for the test and the Lakes Student Council treated over 300 seniors to a tamale from Mijo’s Authentic Mexican Food at the conclusion of the test.

For the 2020-21 school year, the LCHS Student Council is dedicated to providing activities in which students can come to school and while socially distanced, enjoy being with their friends. They are open to suggestions for activities that would be engaging for our students and community members while being mindful of not having too many people in one area at a time.
