One District, One School & One Team

This year at Hillcrest, we are focused on celebrating our accomplishments, each other, and our school spirit. We are grateful for the opportunity to be one district, one school, and one team, and we are working hard to appreciate and spread the joy that should be the heartbeat of an elementary school community.

Among other things, students at Hillcrest are celebrated for completing levels of Lexia, our interactive literacy program, and for earning PBIS Rewards points for demonstrating safe, respectful, and responsible behavior. Lexia shout-outs are made on the morning announcements, and students receive certificates for completing levels in the program. Our students are celebrated for displaying positive behaviors as well, and look forward to using their PBIS Rewards points to purchase items from the classroom and school stores, in addition to using their points to enter the monthly raffles which contain coveted prizes, including academic games and toys. As of October 21, 2021 Hillcrest Hurricanes have earned 145,984 PBIS Rewards points, which itself is cause for celebration.

Hillcrest continues to recognize and celebrate each other with monthly community meetings, where we honor students of the month from each class for displaying our character word of the month. Additionally, whole classes are acknowledged for exemplary participation and behavior in specials, in the hallway, during library, and at lunch and recess with the prestigious Golden Hurricane Class Awards.

Arguably, Hillcrest Hurricanes find the most joy in celebrating our school spirit, which continues to grow. Our Hillcrest Rocks attire, Hurricane spiritwear, and monthly spirit weeks add a jolt of excitement and extra pep in our step as we strut through the hallways. We celebrated Red Ribbon week with dress up days to remind us to make healthy choices, and honored Mickey Mouse’s birthday in November. Possibly our favorite dress up day was “dress like your favorite book character.” With our Hurricane creativity and an extra dose of school pride, Hillcrest continues to celebrate the little things—and strives to make moments that define and connect us.
