Fox Lake Grade School District 114’s 5th Annual Day of Service took place on Friday, September 27. This exciting event not only raises funds for the Fox Lake District 114 Parent Teacher Association, but more importantly gives students an opportunity to serve in the community and grow as individuals. Every dollar collected goes directly back to every student in the district. The Day of Service grows bigger each year, and this year was no exception. The Clinton Family Fund once again agreed to generously match donations over $25,000.
District 114’s Day of Service is similar to a walk-a-thon, but instead of students collecting pledges and walking, students seek donors to sponsor their involvement in a service project within the Fox Lake community. Locations included The American Legion Post 703, YMCA Camp Duncan, Camp Henry Horner, Feed My Starving Children, Lakefront Park Building, Grant Township’s Fall Fest, Fire Stations 2 & 3, The Cottages, Perricone’s Restaurant, the Fox Lake Police Department, and more! Lotus’ 4th graders added to this year’s event by visiting a local retirement home and performing readers theater for the residents. In addition to the off site service projects, Lotus students decorated superhero capes for a children’s hospital, made dog treats for local animal shelters, and made care packages for our local Fox Lake Fire and Police Departments.

This year’s Day of Service goal was to raise $30,000.00 to benefit all students in Fox Lake District 114. We are thrilled to share that, thanks to our students, families, and community’s efforts, we raised over $41,000.00! The money raised will be used for our PTA events, educational assemblies, field trips, family nights, principal programs, athletic scholarships, school dances, the Lotus and Stanton libraries, Book Buddies, mentor programs, and other school-specific projects. What a WIN for the students in District 114!
