On Thursday, April 28 Grass Lake School students in choir joined students from Lakes Community High School, Antioch Community High School, Antioch Upper Grade, Palombi, Hillcrest, W.C. Petty, Oakland, Millburn, and Emmons for the Fine Arts Festival. The festival showcased students in choir, band, orchestra, and art across the districts over two days.
During the school day on Thursday students were bussed to Lakes Community High School’s brand new Field House to rehearse. Eleven GLS students in grades 4-8 participated in this event. This was a new experience for all the students. They had a chance to sing with over 500 music students in Antioch! The performance took place Thursday evening at 7:00 pm to a packed house of over 1000 people. GLS students performed in three songs with a 2-part treble choir (Natsu No Ya Wa, Songs of a Disney Villain, and Lightning) and one mass ensemble song (Bonse Aba) alongside the other schools. This was a massive undertaking for all students. Not only to learn the music but to perform with new students, new directors, and in an unfamiliar place. We are so proud of all the hard work that the students put in for this amazing event. It was a privilege to hear live music again!
On Friday, April 29, artwork was on display from each school as well. Featured artwork came from Grass Lake middle school students and included mediums such as paint, clay, chalks, mixed media, and digital art. Artwork was selected for the show based on the best representations of our students’ work. The Antioch Woman’s Club sponsored the art portion of the evening and gave out many awards. Grass Lake School proudly took home nine awards including Ewa B.’s first place ribbon. Congratulations to all the students who had pieces in the show. It was delightful to see such beautiful art in person again.
